American pianist in the Boogie Woogie style. He was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in 1991.
He worked as an entertainer in Pittsburgh before touring on the T.O.B.A. vaudeville circuit as a comedian and pianist.
He left behind no photographs of himself. He was the first to sing of "the girl with the red dress on," a lyrical trope among jazz and blues musicians.
He was raised by his family in Birmingham, Alabama.
He influenced many pianists, including Pete Johnson .
