He studied sound engineering at the Film and Television Institute of India and began composing jingles for advertisements.
He is a much-awarded film composer, taking home the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director in 2012 for his work on the film Barfi.
His parents are Prabodh and Anuradha Chakraborty.
He became friendly with fellow aspiring artists like famed composer Shantanu Moitra while getting his start in the composing business.
