Brazilian defender who won the Bundesliga Championship with Bayern Munich in 2013. He became a member of the Brazilian national team in 2008. He signed a three-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain in October 2020.

He first played professionally for Brazil's Coritiba in 2002.

He made 153 appearances for Schalke 04 between 2005 and 2010. He ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee during a draw with Atlético Madrid in November 2018.

He had a daughter named Maria-Luiza Ferreira de Souza.

He joined Kaka on the Brazilian national team in 2008.
