English horror fiction writer known for novels such as The Hungry Moon, Midnight Sun, and To Wake the Dead, among numerous others. Some of his novels have been adapted into films such as Jaume Balagueró's The Nameless and Denis Rovira van Boekholt's The Influence. He is regarded as one of the leading horror writers of his time.
He began reading the works of HP Lovecraft at the age of eight.
He served as President of the British Fantasy Society for a number of years. He enjoys classical music and fine dining. He often retweets about the work of artists and other authors on his ramseycampbell1 Twitter account.
He and Jenny Chandler have been married since 1971. They have two children, Tamsin and Matthew.
His 1990 novel, Midnight Sun, has invited comparisons to the work of Algernon Blackwood and Arthur Machen .
