ABOUT RAUL ROCO
Filipino politician and political figure known for being a member of the Philippines Senate, running for President of the Philippines, writing a law reforming the Philippines banking system, and writing both the Intellectual Property Code and the Securities Regulation Code.
He graduated with an English degree from San Beda College in the year 1960. He then attended law school and passed the bar exam in the year 1965. He then worked as a lawyer before pursuing politics. He was elected to the Philippines House of Representatives from 1987 to 1992. He was then elected to the Senate in the year 1992.
He also worked as a film producer and helped produce the film Weighed But Found Wanting in the year 1974. He founded the political party Aksyon Demokratiko and served as its president until his death. He is also remembered for the numerous women's rights bills he helped write and pass.
He was born in Naga, Philippines. He had six children with his wife Sonia Malasarte Roco. He died of prostate cancer on August 5th, 2005.
He was appointed education secretary by Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2001.
