Republican politician who served as United States Secretary of Transportation from 2009 until 2013.
He graduated from Bradley University in Peoria in 1971, earning a Bachelor of Science in education and sociology.
He represented Illinois's 18th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2009.
He had four children with his wife Kathy.
Despite being from opposite parties Barack Obama appointed him as the US Secretary of Transportation.
