British media proprietor and former member of Parliament who is widely remembered for his massive publishing empire. After his death, it became apparent that his companies hid financial discrepancies and fraudulent misappropriation of funds.

He reached the rank of sergeant while serving in the North Staffordshire Regiment.

It is widely thought that he operated as a double or triple agent as an asset of Russia or the Mossad.

He was the father of convicted criminal and disgraced socialite Ghislaine Maxwell .

He competed against fellow media tycoon Rupert Murdoch for control of several publications in the 1960's.
