ABOUT ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG
Painter and pop artist known for his graphic art and his innovative use of materials. Best known for "Combines" from the 1950s. He worked primarily as a painter and a sculptor.
He studied under Josef Albers , who established the Bauhaus School, and taught at Black Mountain College.
He was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1993 and the Leonardo da Vinci World Award of Arts in 1995. He worked in printmaking, papermaking, and photography.
He married and had a son with Susan Weil in the 1950s. He later formed relationships with Jasper Johns and Cy Twombly .
He collaborated with composer and writer John Cage .
