ABOUT ROD DEMERY

Author, television host, and former homicide detective known for being the star and narrator of the Investigation Discovery series Murder Chose Me, Murder by Medic, and Meet Mary Murder, and for his 14-year career as a homicide detective in Shreveport, Louisiana. He is also known for serving as the chief of the Grambling State University Police Department.

His mother's unsolved murder when he was three years old profoundly impacted his decision to pursue a career in law enforcement. He served in the United States Navy during the Gulf War before he joined the Shreveport Police Department in 1999. He began working in the department's violent crimes unit as a homicide detective in 2001.

He worked on over 250 homicide cases during his time as a homicide detective. He achieved a remarkable 100% confession rate in the more than 60 cases where he served as the lead detective. He is the author of Things My Daughters Need to Know, which was published in the year 2011, and of No Place for Race, which was published in 2013.

He was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. His mother was murdered when he was 3 years old, and his brother was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison when he was in his twenties. He has been married and divorced twice and is the father of nine children.

He worked alongside John Nicholson on Murder Chose Me in 2017 and 2018.
