He studied law at Complutense University and received his MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.
He was chosen as Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund in 2004 and held the position until 2007.
He was born in Madrid, Spain.
He was a strong supporter of Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar .
