Costa Rican lawyer and politician. He is the brother of Óscar Rafael de Jesús Arias Sánchez, Costa Rican president from 1986 to 1990 and 2006 to 2010.

He graduated from the law school of the University of Costa Rica in 1969.

From 2006 to 2010, he was an advisor to the President of the Republic.

He married Milena Grillo Rivera. He has children named María Andrea, Rodrigo Antonio and Juan Rafael Arias Grillo.
