ABOUT ROY WEGERLE

Midfielder and striker who played for 12 teams from 1984 to 1998, including numerous MLS teams, as well as for the United States national team from 1992 to 1998.

He played his youth soccer for the Arcadia Shepherds from 1980 to 1981, and for the University of South Florida Bulls from 1982 to 1983.

After retiring from soccer, he began to focus on a career as a professional golfer.

He got married in 1991, which granted him American citizenship.

He was credited for reporting the news that his national teammate John Harkes was having an affair with another teammate's wife.
