ABOUT RUSSELL SOLOMON
Empresario who became known as the Father of Texas after leading the second colonization of Austin with 300 families from the United States.
He was raised in southeastern Missouri as the second child of Mary Brown and Moses Austin.
He acquired land in what would become Little Rock, Arkansa, after losing his job as a member of the territorial legislature of Missouri in the Panic of 1819.
His father died of pneumonia after receiving an empresarial grant from Spanish Texas that permitted him to bring 300 families into Texas. With reluctance, Austin completed his father's journey.
Another person with a city in Texas named after him is Sam Houston .
