ABOUT RUTH ASAWA
Japanese American sculptor who has been called the "fountain lady" for her works. She received the Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architects.
She studied at Milwaukee State Teachers College and Black Mountain College.
Her best known work may be the "Andrea" mermaid fountain in Ghirardelli Square.
She married architect Albert Lanier and they had six children together.
She and Ray Johnson both studied at Black Mountain College.
