ABOUT SALAH ABU SEIF

Remembered for his work on films such as Mughamarat Antar wa Abla, Al-Wahsh, and Al-Saqqa Mat, this acclaimed movie director and screenwriter pioneered Egyptian cinematic realism and was nominated for numerous Cannes Film Festival honors.

He directed his first film, Dayman fi Qalbi, in 1946. His acclaimed movie Lak Yawm Ya Zalem followed five years later.

He earned a Berlin Film Festival Award nomination for his 1957 movie Al-Fetewa (English title: The Tough).

He was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt.

His 1960 movie Bidaya wa nihaya, nominated for the Moscow International Film Festival's grand prize, was an adaptation of a novel by Nobel Prize-winning author Naguib Mahfouz .
