ABOUT SAMUEL MOREY

Engineer who worked on some of the earliest internal combustion steam engines for boats.

He channeled the steam coming out of a tea kettle on the fireplace to turn a spit placed above it while he was still a child.

His first steamboat used a paddle wheel to transport people up the river at 4 mph.

He was the second child of Israel Morey and Martha Palmer. His family moved from Connecticut to New Hampshire.

He inspired George Westinghouse to build a practical engine based on his discovery.
