ABOUT SAMUEL WHITE
Historical political figure who was a member of the Federalist Party, who served as U.S. Senator from Delaware. By his last session in Congress, he was one of very few Federalists still in office.
He was admitted to the Delaware Bar in 1793 after graduating from Cokesbury College in Maryland.
He was especially known for his opposition to the Louisiana Purchase. He served as a Senator from February 28, 1801 until his death on November 4, 1809. The opposition he shared with others towards the Louisiana Purchase was in fear that Western expansion would decrease the strength of the federal government.
He is buried in the Old Swedes Episcopal Church Cemetery.
He was preceded by Henry Latimer .
