After graduating from Drake University, she worked at a polling firm.

In 2007, she resigned after testifying before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee regarding the controversy surrounding the dismissing of U.S. Attorneys.

Her father, Ray Taylor, was an Iowa state representative.

She was deputy to Chief Strategist Matthew Dowd during the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign.
