Lithuanian film director who was considered to be one of the most prominent Lithuanian film directors from the late 20th century.
He directed his first film Tofolaria in 1986.
He received the CinemAvvenire Award at the Venice Film Festival in 2000 for his movie Freedom.
His parents raised him in Siauliai, Lithuania.
He and Jonas Mekas were both famous directors from Lithuania.
