ABOUT SHAHID MALIK

While representing England's Dewsbury constituency in the United Kingdom Parliament, this Labour Party politician served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice, Communities, and International Development.

After taking business classes at London South Bank University, he studied at Durham University.

He holds the distinction of being the first Muslim to serve as a governmental minister in the United Kingdom.

He and his five siblings grew up in Lancashire, England, as the children of a Justice of the Peace mother and a Pakistani-born mayor father.

He served several under-secretarial positions in the administration of Prime Minister Gordon Brown .
