After graduating with a degree in Sport and Recreation Management from Temple University, he went on to spend three years playing for the National Football League.

His entrepreneurial efforts have extended to his ownership of both a hair salon and restaurant in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

His mother, Maggie, gave birth to Shawn in Pennsylvania and raised he and his brother in Philadelphia. He lost his father to cancer when he was only twenty two.

He is the star of a reality dating series, much like The Bachelor's Chris Soules .
