He attended Tufts University after which he began his producing career with the film Outlaw Blues in 1976.

He was the first person to win a Super Bowl ring and an Academy Award.

He had three children with ex-wife Jamie Leigh Anne Alexander.

He won an Oscar as a producer on the film Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks .
