Creator of such successful TV series as NYPD Blue, LA Law, and Hill Street Blues. He has earned 10 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series.

He studied playwriting and theater at the Carnegie Institute of Technology.

He was one of the first producers to use a story arc in a TV show and enlist an ensemble cast.

He was married to Gabrielle Levin from 1964 to 1969 and Barbara Bosson from 1970 to 1997. In 2000, he married his third wife, Dayna Kalins. He has two children.

Kim Delaney starred in his popular series NYPD Blue.
