ABOUT STEVEN ERLANGER

American journalist who has reported from more than 120 countries. He is the chief diplomatic correspondent in Europe for The New York Times , a position he assumed in 2017. He also joined the Times in September 1987.

In 1970, he graduated from the Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut. He received an A.B. degree, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Harvard University in 1974. He majored in political philosophy in the government department. He also studied Russian as a senior fellow at St. Antony's College, Oxford.

Before coming to The Times, he worked for The Boston Globe for 11 years. He has written for numerous magazines, including The Spectator, The Economist, The New Republic, the Financial Times, New Statesman, Columbia Journalism Review, and The National Interest.

His parents were Jay and Florence Erlange. His wife is Elisabeth Erlanger.

In 2022, he was the moderator at the Athens Democracy Forum for an event called A Decade of Democracy: China and Russia, whose panel included Jeffrey Sachs .
