An American author, she is known for the moving work, Who I Was Supposed to Be. Her award-winning short stories include titles such as Shelter and Treasure.
She earned her MFA from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
She worked as a Professor of English at Dickenson College, where she was popular among students.
She was born in Pennsylvania, and she grew up with one sister.
The Missouri Review named her short story, Treasure, edited by Stephen King , one of the 100 Distinguished Stories of 2006.
