He grew up in Frankfurt, but in 1980 went to Ibiza at 16. That's when he decided to become a DJ. One of his first gigs was at his parents' club in Frankfurt. The 1986 single "Electrica Salsa" with OFF (Organization For Fun) launched his career.

He is recognized for cultivating the underground electronic music scene, not just in Germany but in Ibiza as well. He is also a major proponent of vinyl. He uses only two decks and a mixer for his extensive DJ sets. His longest set lasted 30 hours. He uses Instagram as a place to post snippets of his shows, as well as the occasional selfie.

Both his parents were from East Germany. They escaped separately, met, and had Vath and his two brothers in Frankfurt. He has two children by two different women. He named his son Tiga after the Canadian DJ/producer Tiga.

Cocoon, his agency and recording label, has had Ricardo Villalobos , Guy Gerber , and Loco Dice on its roster. And its parties and nightclub have also included Josh Wink , Armin van Buuren , and Adam Beyer .
