ABOUT SYDNEY PRIOR HALL
The foremost graphic reportage artist of the late Victorian period.
He was an illustrator for newspaper The Graphic and gained fame for his detailed drawings of the Franco-Prussian War front.
He achieved prominence as a book illustrator, and his work adorned such tomes as "Tom Brown at Oxford" by Thomas Hughes.
His father was animal portraitist Harry Hall. His son was Egyptologist Henry R.H. Hall.
His paintings were included in the Royal Collection of Queen Elizabeth II .
