ABOUT TAMA JANOWITZ
Novelist, author, writer, and short story author who is best known for her books "Slaves of New York", "A Certain Age", and "Scream: A Memoir of Glamour and Dysfunction." She left Manhattan to live in Brooklyn with her British husband and art-gallery owner, Tim Hunt, and their daughter. She now lives near Ithaca, New York.
She graduated with a bachelor's degree from the acclaimed Barnard College and then went on to receive a master's degree at Hollis College, and an M.F.A. at Columbia University.
Her book Slaves of New York was adapted into a film directed by the late legendary James Ivory , and starred actress Bernadette Peters . Janowitz has published seven novels, one collection of stories and one work of nonfiction.
She was born in San Francisco, California to Cornell literature professor Phyllis Winer and psychiatrist Julian Janowitz. After her parents divorced when she was 10, she and her brother grew up with their mother in Massachusetts. She married art gallery owner, Tim Hunt, with whom she shares a daughter.
She is known as one of the "brat pack" authors alongside renowned authors such as Bret Easton Ellis and Jill Eisenstadt. She was friends with legendary artist Andy Warhol , with whom she was seen dancing at Studio 54.
