ABOUT TANYA TAGAQ

Canadian Inuk throat singer known for critically acclaimed albums like Animism and Sinaa. She has been heavily involved in activism in support of indigenous land rights and cultural preservation.

She began practicing throat singing while attending Sir John Franklin High School in Yellowknife, Canada. She later attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where she studied visual arts. It was during this time that she developed her unique solo form of Inuit throat singing.

She won the 2014 Polaris Music Prize for her album Animism.

She has a daughter named Inuuja.

She was featured on Björk 's 2004 album Medúlla.
