Composer known for Charley, My Boy, Now That You're Gone, and I Never Knew. He was popular on radio in the 1920s and 1930s.

He used to be a pianist at Columbia's New York City recording studio. He primarily worked with Harry Yerkes' bands.

He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.

He was born to Italian immigrant couple Louis and Eugenia Rito.

He collaborated with Gus Kahn , Sam Lewis, Cecil Mack, and Joe Young.
