Sicilian-born American gangster who was a founding member of the Mafia in the United States, which branched off of the Cosa Nostra in Sicily. He was the boss of the Lucchese crime family in New York City from 1951 to 1967.
His family emigrated to Manhattan in 1911.
The Lucchese crime family was one of the storied Five Families that oversaw organized crime in New York City during the 20th century.
He and his wife Catherine had two children together.
He and James Marcello were both bosses of Mafia families.
