ABOUT TOREY HAYDEN
Special education teacher and non-fiction author who is best known for her books "One Child," "Just Another Kid" and "Ghost Girl." Her books are based on her real-life experiences with teaching and counseling children with special needs and covers subjects such as autism, Tourette syndrome, sexual abuse, fetal alcohol syndrome, and elective mutism.
She attended high school in Billings, Montana and graduated in 1969. She attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. She received a master's degree in special education from Montana State University Billings in 1975 and moved to University of Minnesota for a doctorate in educational psychology.
In 1980, she moved to Wales where she worked primarily with charities associated with child neglect and abuse, including Childline, the NSPCC, the Samaritans and the Citizens' Advice Bureau.
Her birth name is Victoria Lynn Hayden. In 1985, she married a Scotsman named Ken; they had a daughter named Sheena before eventually divorcing.
She and Sarah Vowell are both non-fiction authors.
