ABOUT TORU TAKEMITSU
Self taught composer who was known for combining elements of oriental and occidental philosophy and for fusing sound with silence. He scored more than ninety films and published twenty books.
He was conscripted by the Japanese military in 1944.
He suffered from tuberculosis in his early twenties. His service in the military introduced him to Western classical music. He was a founding member of the artistic group Jikken Kōbō.
He was married to Asaka Takemitsu.
He named Claude Debussy as being influential to his early work.
