ABOUT ULRIKE MARIE MEINHOF

Left-wing revolutionary who, as a founder (in 1970) of the Red Army Faction, was charged with multiple counts of murder. She was hanged before her trial.

She attended the University of Munster, where she became a member of the Socialist German Student Union. Later, she joined the Communist Party of Germany and began working as an editor for a publication called Konkret.

She participated, with the Red Army Faction, in numerous bombings and bank robberies and wrote, during this period, a manifesto called The Concept of the Urban Guerrilla.

She married, and later divorced, publisher Klaus Rainer Rohl. Together, the couple had twin daughters: Bettina and Regine.

Singer Marianne Faithfull dedicated a song on her Broken English album to Meinhof.
