Won the Australian Open and French Open singles competition in 1998 and compiled a number of tournament championships in doubles play alongside her younger sister Serena Williams .

Her family moved out of Compton so the girls could learn to play under Rick Macci .

She was the first black woman to become World No. 1.

Her parents are Richard Williams and Oracene Price . She has half sisters named Isha and Lyndrea . In July 2024, she began dating Italian actor Andrea Preti. The couple announced their engagement in July 2025.

She became one of the first three female tennis players to reach the finals of all four grand slams, along with her sister and Maria Sharapova .
