Vern Ehlers

ABOUT VERN EHLERS

American physicist and politician who served as US representative for Michigan's 3rd congressional district from 1993 to 2011. He was the first research physicist to be elected to the United States Congress.

He received his bachelor's and PhD degrees in physics from the UC Berkeley .

He helped launch the bipartisan STEM Education Caucus in 2005.

He was married to Johanna Meulink for 59 years.

In 2011, Justin Amash succeeded him as US representative for Michigan's 3rd congressional district.
