ABOUT VILLIAM FIGUS-BYSTRY
Composer and teacher who authored "Detvan," the first Slovak national opera. He was a collector of folk songs and published numerous compendiums of his folk adaptations.
He taught in many schools in Slovakia, including in Pilis, Ostrá Lúka, Zvolenská Slatina, and Padina.
He was a founding member of the Association of the Slovak Artists and chairman.
He lived his entire life in Banská Bystrica.
He attended the Franz Liszt Academy of Music where he studied with Zoltán Kodály.
