Vito Acconci

ABOUT VITO ACCONCI

American performance, and video and installation artist who is best known for his sculpture, architectural design, and landscape design. He is known for his works "Personal Island," designed for Zwolle, "Walkways Through the Wall" at the Wisconsin Center, and "Murinsel," for Graz.

Acconci attended a Roman Catholic elementary school, high school (Regis High School in New York City), and college. In the year 1962, he earned a BA in literature from the College of the Holy Cross. He also received a MFA in literature and poetry from the University of Iowa .

He has been recognized from the National Endowment for the Arts, John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and American Academy in Rome.

He was married to Maria Acconci. He was previously married to Rosemary Mayer.

His work has influenced artists including Laurie Anderson , Bruce Nauman , and Tracey Emin .
