ABOUT VIVIAN WOODWARD
English soccer player who was a member of teams for Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea during the turn of the century. He became a captain after joining the 17th Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment for World War I, and was unable to play the sport after returning home due to an injury in 1916.
He was an architect before becoming involved in soccer.
As captain of the Great Britain team, he helped win gold medals in the 1908 London and 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games, becoming one of the greatest amateur footballers from England.
He was born into a wealthy family the son of an architect. He was one of eight children.
He and fellow English soccer player David Beckham both played for Tottenham Hotspur .
