In 2003, he kickstarted his professional career by winning the Karting World Championship.

In 2005, he won the Indy Lights Series championship.

He was brought up in Auckland, New Zealand.

He and Rugby professional, Jonah Lomu , were both born-and-raised in Auckland, New Zealand.
