He began his racing career in 1989 in the British Formula Ford Junior 1600 series.
In 2005 he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 division.
He was born in Newcastle, England.
His Formula Ford debut was notable for the fact that he finished ahead of successful driver David Couthard .
