Republican politician who served Colorado as its United States Senator from 1997 to 2009.

He received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 1968.

After he left politics, he began working for The Livingston Group, a Washington D.C. lobbying firm.

He had two daughters with his wife Joan Malcolm.

He was succeeded by Mark Udall as a U.S. senator from Colorado.
