ABOUT WHANG-OD OGGAY
Considered the oldest living tattoo artist of the traditional Kalinga style. She is the last person of her generation left alive who is a "mambabatok" of traditional tattooing. She celebrated her 108th birthday in February 2025.
She spent her childhood and teenage years learning her craft from the male-only tattoo masters, only to become the first-ever female tattoo master in tribal history.
She appeared in person at theĀ Dutdutan Tattoo Expo in 2012 and set up her tattoo booth. Her tattoos have been featured in a photo exhibit in the Royal Ontario Museum in Canada in 2016.
Her only love died when he was a teenager, and she refused to fall in love or have a family after his death.
Filipino actress Janine Gutierrez played her in the 2017 Australian TV series Wagas.
