American philosopher remembered for exploring the topics of epistemology and pragmatism.

He was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, graduating in 1940.

He was named the president of the Metaphysical Society of America in 1977.

He was brought up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, by Canadian-American philosopher Roy Wood Sellars.

He and NBA player Glen Rice both studied at the University of Michigan.
