
William Kraft
ABOUT WILLIAM KRAFT
American composer known for his serialist and jazz-influenced compositions. He composed the score to the 1983 animated dark fantasy adventure film Fire and Ice. In his later years, he chaired the composition department at UC Santa Barbara .
He studied music at Columbia University prior to entering the world of professional musicianship and film scoring.
He was a fan of the swing era jazz musicians Benny Goodman and Count Basie . He received two Kennedy Center Friedheim Awards during his time as a professional musician and composer.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois.
He served as the Los Angeles Philharmonic's assistant conductor under the musical direction of Zubin Mehta .
