William Wilberforce

ABOUT WILLIAM WILBERFORCE

Member of the British Parliament from 1784 to 1812 who was a strong abolitionist. He was also an advocate against cruelty to animals.

He earned a master's degree from St John's College, Cambridge.

Wilberforce University in Ohio is named after him.

He married Barbara Spooner Wilberforce, and had six children.

Actor Ioan Gruffudd played him in the 2007 movie Amazing Grace.
