ABOUT YAHWEH BEN YAHWEH
Best remembered for founding a controversial organization known as the Nation of Yaweh, this black supremacist leader and self-proclaimed Messiah served prison time for arson, extortion, and murder.
Born Hulon Mitchell, Jr. in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, he later settled in Florida, establishing the headquarters of the Nation of Yaweh in Miami's Liberty City neighborhood.
He was sentenced under a federal law known as the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
He grew up as the son of an Oklahoma Church of God in Christ minister father and a pianist mother. He later fathered a child named Sincere Israel.
His sister, Leona Mitchell , had a successful career as an operatic soprano, performing at the Metropolitan Opera and earning a Grammy Award.
