Yang Hak-seon

ABOUT YANG HAK-SEON

First South Korean gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal. His specialty is the vault event. He began competing professionally in 2010. In 2011, he first performed the vault element during the World Championships, which was named after him and coined Yang 1.

He began gymnastics when he was 9 years old. He supported his family with the money he was making from the Korea Gymnastic Association, after his father lost his job.

He was a competitor in the Netflix show Physical: 100 . He is known for performing one of the five hardest vaults in the world. He performed in more than a half dozen Artistic Gymnastics World Championships throughout the course of his career.

He married Park Jong-Ye in 2020. He has posted pictures of his dog and cat on his Instagram yang1yang2. His parents are Yang Gwan-gwon and Ki Suk-hyang.

He joins gymnasts Alexei Nemov and Gervasio Deferr as Olympic gold winners for men's vault.
